Making a Difference

Making a Difference

Chanda is a girl from an undocumented village who doesn’t know her birthdate or her exact age. In her native Southern Nepal village girls births are not recorded in any official record. They are unacknowledged from the moment of her birth. If ones own birth does not matter then the conditions in which you lives, work, strive, suffer and die also do not matter.

We found Chanda when she was only 5 or 6 years old. Camilla Wolf has sponsored her for the last few years she has been with Local Women and is now going to a really good school. Today she gives all her love to everyone who visits our cooperative shop in Thamel.

Chanda’s destiny is changing and she’s becoming very impactful in her community as a young leader.

There are still millions of girls who aren’t able to go to school. Please help us save more girls www.locwom.org/donate-now/

Building a Learning Center to Empower Women and Children

Local Women are in one of the most underserved communities in the Nepal Terai region. We’re building a learning center to empower women and children.

Every year this village has natural disasters and what ever the villagers build gets wiped out in few days. Most of the men have moved to the city and only the women and children live here. They’re forced to drink yellow water from ground, and the conditions get really bad during monsoon when the ground water brings disease.

This village and the whole district of Terai needs so much support. We need to take action and help everyone here who are struggling to have basic human rights.

Please help us spread the word and/or donate now: https://locwom.org/donate-now/

Women’s Empowerment Center – progress update

Local Women are in GoganPur Village building the Women’s Empowerment center and while we are there we are connecting a lot with local people and are spending lots of time with children and women. Most of the men have left the village and live in the city.

There are a lot of beautiful things in this village, people are fully connected with each other, the animals and the earth. All they need is quality education and skills to support themselves in a really healthy way.

We brought some toys to these children and the image tells you more than words how excited they were. In Nepal still only 49% of girls age 15+ are literate. 13% of school-age children are out of school. 36 out of 1000 children die before their 5th birthday. 38% of children are engaged in child labor. 26% of people live in poverty.

I wish there could be more people or organizations supporting this area. They need sustainable change. Our reason for building a women’s empowerment center in this area is to respect their culture, their 1000 year old practices and support them with quality knowledge and skills so they can bring best to the family and community.

Please keep following our progress in Goganpur village
Thank you

The Paradox of Our Age

We have bigger houses, but smaller families, more conveniences, but less time, we have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgements, more experts, but more problems, more medicines but less healthiness, we have been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.

We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever but have less communication. We have become long on quantity but short on quality, these are times of fast foods but slow digestion, it is a time when there is much in the window but nothing in the room.

The 14th Dalai Lama quote reminded us how important it is for all of us to connected with nature. We are in Gogan Pur village building Women’s empowerment center, the people in this village still follow ancient science and are very connected to earth, but we are feeling the influence of the fast track world is making their way to these small villages too.

Local women is committed to restoring the old tradition and supporting ancient science and making a change not through technology but with the help of nature, because you exist in nature and nature exists in you.

Thank you to all the supporter who is helping us complete this center. Find out more at www.locwom.org
